WHO: is the information for?
*Sex or
age level (child or senior adult) can make a difference in the
information needed.
WHAT: is the
exact diagnosis?
*If
they do not know, ask them to call their physician or nurse or come
back when they
know. You don't want to give wrong information!
WHERE: have
you looked already?
WHEN: are you
having this test/procedure done?
HOW: much
information do you want?
*Two types of people:
- Type 1 wants to cope with the situation: "I'm
looking for everything on this topic."
- Type 2 wants to turn away from the situation: "Do
you have a pamphlet on this topic?" Too much informaiton
will increase their stress level.
WHY: do you
need this information -- school report or personal need?
